Care India organized several workshops to promote biotechnolgy with the collaboration of Government of Uttarakhand. In the sequence of promoting biotechnology Care India organized a number of workshops for farmer trainings, for vermicompost, hybrid seeds, poly house importance and soil fertility tips.
Poly House Importance
A Poly house works on the principle that crop production is influenced not only by heredity but also by the micro-climate around the plant. The components of climate are – light, temperature, relative humidity, air composition and nature of root medium. Under a greenhouse, these factors can be well controlled so that the plant gets best environment for production. However, the concept holds good only, if the design of the Poly house is suitable as per the climatic conditions. The design and construction of a Poly house is a specialized activity, which is undertaken by professional organization. Any faulty design can kill the crop in no time; hence same is of greater importance.
Vermicompost Importance
Vermicomposting is a method of preparing enriched compost with the use of earthworms. It is one of the easiest methods to recycle agricultural wastes and to produce quality compost. Earthworms consume biomass and excrete it in digested form called worm casts. Worm casts are popularly called as Black gold. The casts are rich in nutrients, growth promoting substances, beneficial soil micro flora and having properties of inhibiting pathogenic microbes. Vermicompost is stable, fine granular organic manure, which enriches soil quality by improving its physicochemical and biological properties. It is highly useful in raising seedlings and for crop production. Vermicompost is becoming popular as a major component of organic farming system.
